After almost three years since the release of gaming consoles such as the Xbox Series X and PS5 with HDMI 2.1 capability, we are now witnessing the arrival of HDMI 2.1 capture cards in the market. AVerMedia is introducing its newest product, the Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1 HDMI 2.1 USB capture card, which is available for purchase at $299.99. This capture card is specifically designed for streamers and gamers, providing them with the capability to play the latest consoles with 120Hz options enabled, while still being able to capture gameplay at an impressive 4K resolution and 60 frames per second (fps).

Many streamers have been eagerly anticipating the availability of 4K/60fps capture over USB. Currently, there are limited options for capturing this high resolution and frame rate using USB, especially since the discontinuation of Elgato’s 4K 60 S+ last year. As a result, many streamers have had to resort to using PCIe capture cards as an alternative solution.

AVerMedia has introduced their latest capture card that offers impressive features. This device supports up to 4K/144Hz pass-through, ensuring a seamless and smooth gaming experience. Additionally, it also includes HDR (High Dynamic Range) and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support, allowing for enhanced visuals and reduced screen tearing during gameplay. Thanks to advancements in technology, gamers now have the capability to enjoy high-quality gaming experiences. With a powerful gaming PC, it is now possible to play games at 4K resolution with a refresh rate of 144Hz. Furthermore, if you are interested in streaming your gameplay, you can use a separate streaming PC to capture footage at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second (fps). In addition to PC gaming capabilities, the latest generation consoles also offer impressive features. Players can enjoy gameplay at 4K resolution with a refresh rate of 120Hz. And just like on a streaming PC, capturing gameplay on these consoles can be done at a smooth frame rate of 60fps.These advancements provide gamers with multiple options for playing and capturing their gameplay experiences without compromising on quality.

AVerMedia is offering support for various pass-through options in addition to different resolutions and refresh rates. However, it’s important to note that not all of the HDMI 2.1 specifications are supported initially. Currently, the supported options include 1080p with a refresh rate of 240Hz, as well as 1440p with a refresh rate of 144Hz at launch. AVerMedia has announced a firmware update scheduled for October 19th that will bring support for 1440p/240Hz to their devices. However, there is no official commitment from AVerMedia regarding support for 1080p/360Hz at this time. They have mentioned that they plan to gradually add support for other resolutions in the future. If you own a 360Hz e-sports G-Sync monitor and are looking to use it with pass-through on AVerMedia’s Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1, it’s important to note that there may be a waiting period before full compatibility is achieved.

In addition to its advanced features, the Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1 is equipped with Gaming Utility software. This software allows you to control the LGB lighting on the device and synchronize it with other RGB ecosystems for a visually stunning gaming experience. Furthermore, the Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1 includes a handy party chat feature that enables you to record voice chats while playing games, ensuring you never miss any important moments during gameplay.

Although AVerMedia and MaxSquare have already introduced HDMI 2.1 capture cards, Elgato has yet to make an official announcement regarding its own HDMI 2.1 USB or PCIe cards. This is surprising considering Elgato’s existing range of popular capture cards.

You can now purchase AVerMedia’s Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1 on Amazon right away, and it is priced at $299.99.
